This week’s fiction is a smaller part of a larger whole that will likely never be written. Oh well, c’est la vie. The link to this week’s inspiration is here. Thanks, Madison!
A Glitter of Riches
The desk was such a mess. Gems littered the work surface; their original envelopes cast aside.
They had begun arriving before she had started advertising for them. Not one was smaller than the distal phalanx of her thumb, and a few were larger than ping-pong balls. No one had asked for compensation. Not one person. It almost made her want to cry—the generosity of strangers.
She would have to find a place to keep them before she could resell them; there was no doubt in her mind that she would be a target if they were kept on site.

Interesting, Stacey. I definitely want to know who this woman is and why she’s being sent gems!
Your link did show up on Madison’s comment thread.

I liked that you kept the backstory mysterious and dark. I’ve always relied on the kindness of strangers. Inspiring tale!

Thanks – and if anyone was to ask me what the backstory is, I honestly don’t know…

This was incredible. I love how you never find out just why she’s being sent gems. Way to go!

Nice mystery–”target if they were found on site” sounds ominous–makes me want more of the story and that’s a good thing!

Yes, that’s a great opening to a story or a chapter because it leaves so much to know and it definitely made me want to know what is going on. Why are people generously giving gems and not wanting to be paid for them, and what does she intend to do with them?
